Your Questions Answered

Working with a McKenzie Friend:

In private family law cases, it is highly likely that a judge will grant permission for a McKenzie Friend to assist you, provided a brief CV is submitted to the court and all parties in advance. The right to a fair hearing usually includes a right to lay support

We do not typically have "rights of audience." We can only address the court or question witnesses if the judge grants specific permission, which is rare. Our role is to offer quiet, practical advice to you during the hearing.

We maintain strict confidentiality with all information shared, except where required by law (e.g., safeguarding children, money laundering). Please refer to our full Privacy Policy

Yes, I am a Qualified & Registered Social Worker with Social Work England and adhere to their professional code of conduct. I also adhere the the professional code of conduct expected by the Society of Professional McKenzie Friends.

Family Court & Child Arrangements:

The FHDRA is a crucial initial hearing focused on identifying issues and trying to reach an early agreement, often with CAFCASS involvement. I can help you prepare a strong position statement and strategy for this hearing.

A position statement is a concise summary of your case, what you are asking the court to order, and your proposals for the children. I have extensive experience in drafting position statements and can assist you in preparing this document.

The court's primary concern is the child's welfare. Access can be restricted or stopped if there are serious safeguarding concerns such as domestic abuse, drug/alcohol misuse, or criminal activity.

Education (SEND, EHCP) & Children’s Services:

I can attend meetings with you to offer support, take detailed notes, and help ensure your voice is clearly heard. I assist with preparation beforehand and debriefing afterwards. I can help draft complaints should you be unhappy with the service you have experienced.
